L'Orfeo event

L'Orfeo - Claudio Monteverdi

7.30pm 21 August & 7.30pm 22 August 2014

The School of Music is delighted to be joining forces with the ANU School of Art and the ANU Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics this year to create a new interpretation of Monteverdi's pioneering operatic work; L’Orfeo [Orpheus]. The earliest surviving opera still in the standard repertoire, L'Orfeo is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus, and recounts the story of his power as a musician, his extraordinary love for Eurydice and descent into Hades in an attempt to rescue her.

There will be two performances of the opera (performed in English) in the magnificent Llewellyn Hall using its orchestra pit, and involving digitised stage scenery.
