Our Llewellyn season opener features CSO Concertmaster Barbara Jane Gilby in one of the most perfect violin concertos ever conceived, Mozart’s entrancing “Turkish”.  Led by Australian conductor Tom Woods, the evening begins with the high voltage energy of Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald  Mountain”.
The second half opens with a deeply expressive, rhythmically exhilarating work by Australian composer, Elena Kats-Chernin, written as her homage to Astor Piazzolla. The evening culminates in the melodic beauty of Liszt’s tone poem, Les Préludes- a symphonic masterwork that is regarded as one of the seminal masterpieces of that incredible era in music history – it is a work that paved the way for Wagner and Strauss.
