Critical Approaches to the Production of Music and Sound

Abstract:

This seminar will introduce key themes featured in Assoc. Prof. Bennett’s new co-edited book Critical Approaches to the Production of Music and Sound (Bloomsbury Academic). Who produces sound and music? And in what spaces, localities and contexts? In what ways does the production of music and sound coalesce with multimedia? Critical Approaches to the Production of Music and Sound features 16 brand new articles by leading thinkers from the fields of music, audio engineering, anthropology and media. This seminar will focus on some of the research featured in the book to include themes such as record production, Indigeneity, the construction of genre, as well as issues in cultural and virtual production.

Samantha Bennett is Associate Professor in Music at the Australian National University. She is widely published in the areas of popular music sound recording, technology and production.
