Whitworth-Roach Classical Music Performance Competition Heats

This annual classical music performance competition is open to ANU students with a First Prize of $10,000; Second Prize $5,000; Third Prize $2,500; and People’s Choice Prize of $2,500. This competition is open to the public.

In addition to a prize-pool of $20,000, the supporting endowment generously donated by Ms Christine Roach also makes provision for the ANU School of Music to invite a musician or musicians of international acclaim to visit the university in the week of the competition each year. The musician/s will contribute to the educational and outreach programs of the School as well as act as competition judges.

The School of Music is proud to welcome violinist Graeme Jennings (member of Australia’s internationally acclaimed new music ensemble ELISION and Senior Lecturer in Violin and Viola at Griffith University) and Michael Kieran Harvey (Multi-award winning Australian concert pianist and composer) for the Competition, as both guest artists and adjudicators.

The heats for the competition will feature six ANU students and will be held Thursday 21 September, 1.30pm in the Larry Sitsky Recital Room. Entry is open to the public and free.

Four entrants will go through to the Finals which will be held on Friday 22 September, 6pm on stage in Llewellyn Hall, ANU School of Music. Tickets are available via EventBrite: Full $15, Concession $10, Student $5. ANU School of Music students free.
