Composer, writer and broadcaster Andrew Ford is an ANU HC Creative Arts Fellow in 2018 and will present a number of free concerts and lectures which are open to the public. Please check the ANU School of Music event listing to RSVP for these free events. Event listings will be created in the weeks leading up to the events.

SEMESTER 1

Writing About Music, public lecture
Monday 26 March, 6.30pm 
Larry Sitsky Recital Room, Ground Floor, ANU School of Music
Someone once said that writing about music was like dancing about architecture. Well maybe it is. But why shouldn’t you dance about architecture? Some people believe music should be allowed simply to wash over us. Andrew Ford thinks it’s too important for that. ‘Some of the greatest minds in history have thought musical thoughts,’ he argues. ‘Writing - and talking - about music helps us to understand them.’

Music & Memory, public lecture
Monday 23 April, 6pm
Theatre, Ground Floor, National Library of Australia
In this lecture, award-winning composer Andrew Ford will share insights into the creative process of composing, exploring the relationship between music and memory, reflecting on the role that music plays in our lives.

Andrew Ford - instrumental works, free lunchtime concert
Tuesday 24 April, 1pm
Larry Sitsky Recital Room, Ground Floor, ANU School of Music
This free lunchtime concert will feature instrumental works composed by ANU Coombs Creative Arts Fellow, Andrew Ford, and will be performed by School of Music staff members; Tor Frømyhr, David Pereira, Sally Walker, Mike Cheng-Yu Lee, Edward Neeman with Andrew Ford.

Andrew Ford - panellist for the finals of the Whitworth Roach Classical Music Performance Prize
Thursday 20 September 2018, 6pm (ticketed event, open to the public)
The Whitworth-Roach Competition is an annual event supported by benefactor and music-lover Ms Christine Roach. This year the panellists for the competition will be Andrew Ford, members of the Acacia Quartet and Deputy Head of the School of Music, Dr Paul McMahon.

The ANU School of Music Gala Concert

The 2018 School of Music Gala Concert will feature the Premiere of a new work for TorFrømyhr (violin), David Pereira (cello) by Andrew Ford.

Performance, recording and discussion of new work by Andrew Ford for TorFrømyhr (violin) and David Pereira (cello) in the ANU School of Music state-of-the-art recording studio.
