Dr West, who is the Convenor of the Music Engagement Program at the School of Music, is a winner in the local and regional category.

A/Prof Susan West been in musical education for over 40 years and has been running the ANU Music Engagement Program for close to 20 years. She was honoured to see her achievements at the ANU recognised.

"I don't think I'm particularly well known outside of education and community circles which are themselves not in the public eye as such," she said.

"My work is all about passing on skills and confidence to others so, paradoxically, the lower my public profile, the better I'm doing my job."

Dr West said she believes very strongly in the power of music to help others.

"The Music Engagement Program, with the help of all its users, has found a way of maximising benefit for everyone involved. I am very lucky to be doing this work, and having it recognised is the icing on the cake."
