ANU School of Music In the City!

On Monday 2 December, Members of the University, Business Community, the Austrian Embassy, and the Australian Haydn Ensemble held a reception to celebrate two inspired gifts to the School of Music and the ACT.

A most generous donation to the School’s Endowment for Performance Excellence by Canberra CBD Limited, next year has enabled the Australian Haydn Ensemble to be an ‘Ensemble-in-Residence’ in the School.

As a result, the Australian Haydn Ensemble will be able to perform in Canberra on at least four separate occasions, giving not only concerts but also master classes and other outreach activities for the benefit of the City Centre area and the wider Canberra community.

At the reception HE Dr Helmut Boeck, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria, also handed over to the School an  exhibition devoted to Haydn´s life, work and times as a permanent loan. This exhibition was commissioned by the annual Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt/Austria, where “The Father of the Symphony and the String Quartett” spent most of his long and prolific life at the Esterházy court. The Austrian Embassy presented this exhibition as a gift to the ANU School of Music and the wider Canberra community.
