The Wattle Guitar Quartet were awarded first place at the finals of the 2013 Chamber Music Competition, held on the 3rd of November.
The members of the quartet, Cassandra Low, Jeffrey Cheah, Jesse Flowers and Hamish Strathdee are all in their second year of study at the ANU under the mentorship of Timothy Kain and Minh Le Hoang. The Quartet performed Opals by Phillip Houghton, and Introduction and Fandango by Luigi Boccherini.
Congratulations to all of the entrants, The Wattle Guitar Quartet, Trio Telopea and the Childers Street Quartet, and thanks to the adjudicators and convenors of the competition.
A special mention to the Friends of the School of Music and their continuing support of this prize. The ANU School of Music has great pride in the work of students studying chamber music and the many performances they produce in and around the Canberra region each year. The Chamber Music Competition is dedicated to the presentation, understanding and enjoyment of chamber music, and provides a forum for young emerging musicians to excel in a growing field of interest and expertise, and is generously supported each year by the Friends of the ANU School of Music
