Demetri Neidorf has been playing and teaching saxophones professionally for over 30 years.
Playing career highlights include performing and recording with Bubaca (11 piece African band feat. Maurice Bubaca, ex Youssou N’dour) and Badema (African Quartet feat. Moussa Diakite, ex Salif Kieta). He has been playing with in his originals trio, wordmadeflesh, since 1998. As a saxophonist Demetri has covered most genres in the contemporary music world: Jazz, Free Jazz, Big Band, Blues, R&B, Soul & Motown, Acid Jazz and World Music.
Demetri currently tutors saxophone and clarinet at the Canberra Girls Grammar School, Campbell High School, at the ANU with the Girls Jazz programme, as well as in his private studio in Ainslie. His approach balances rigorous detailed attention to technique with creativity; challenge with encouragement, and relational connection with professional objectivity.
Demetri’s jazz education includes studying under David Baker, participating in two Jamey Aebersold Summer Schools under such luminaries as Jerry Coker, David Liebman, Freddy Hubbard, Randy Brecker, Rufus Reid, John Abercrombie and Hal Galper.
Demetri holds a Diploma of Education from University of Canberra.
