Classes
The Conductor's How-To Guide
4:30pm - 6:00pm on the above dates
The Conductor's How-To Guide is an introduction to conducting course for anyone interested in learning the art of conducting. An all-ages course, these sessions will provide the basics to get you started as a conductor and build the confidence to lead a group.
Explore The Score
6:30pm - 8:00pm on the above dates
Before we conduct anything, we need to know what to do with the score. These five sessions take a journey through orchestras and choirs, focusing on reading and analysing scores. By the end of the course, you will understand more about instrument capabilities, and what to consider when planning programs and rehearsals.
Application
To apply for either of the above conducting classes, please fill out the APPLICATION FORM. Applications will close on Thursday 23 April, 11:55pm.
Who is Monica Buckland?
Monica Buckland brings a rich diversity of experience to this workshop. As a conductor, she has worked with amateur, student and professional orchestras (including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra), choirs of various sizes and abilities, opera and ballet, and even the backing orchestra for a rock group – as well as school bands and orchestras in New South Wales. In her parallel commitment as an educator, she has taught at universities and given courses and masterclasses in Germany, Switzerland, the UK, and most recently Australia.
Monica is passionate about teaching conducting and especially giving “reluctant conductors” the skills they need to lead school and community ensembles. These groups in particular will benefit from having leaders who really know what they’re doing.
