Global Musical Instruments Collection

For many years, the ANU School of Music stood at the forefront of research into non-Western musical traditions. Through the efforts of many dedicated former staff members, the scholarly pursuits of our students, and countless generous donations, the School amassed a sizeable collection of instruments.

The Global Musical Instruments collection is aligned with the New Perspectives in Global Music Research Hub, and offers staff and students the opportunity to engage in new research. Comprising over 300 instruments and other items, it is emblematic of the philosophy of the School of Music: here, we seek to embrace all traditions, including the musics of Australia, our region, and beyond.
