Brendan Clarke

Brendan Clarke is one of Australia’s premier jazz and contemporary bassists and educator’s and has been a highly visible and active member of the Australian jazz and improvising community for thirty years. His tertiary teaching experience includes being lecturer in bass, ensembles, and improvisation at the Jazz Music Institute (JMI) in Brisbane from 2013-2018 and was an Associate Lecturer at the ANU School of Music in Canberra from 2018 – 2021 where he was bass tutor, ensemble director, jazz history lecturer, aural lecturer, and convenor of the Advanced Jazz course. He is currently a lecturer and jazz double bass tutor at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In 2020 Brendan commenced his PhD studies at the ANU which is a scholarly dissertation and series of creative works on spiritual practice and how it can inform and influence creativity, composition, improvisation, and performance.
