James Buchli

James is a passionate hard rock, metal, and blues guitar performer and educator who has been playing since the age of ten. He is currently undertaking a creative practice-led PhD which examines how to develop an individual lead guitar performance style in hard rock and metal music, and is the recipient of an ANU PhD Scholarship.
James began his contemporary guitar performance studies at the ANU School of Music in 2016 and graduated with First Class Honours in 2020. He has won several awards and recognitions over the years, including the ANU Erika Haas Prize, the ANU Ken and Vera Fowler Honours Scholarship, and the ANU Friend’s Bernhard Neumann Memorial Prize.
