Streaming Interviews for Entrance into 2026 CMC Programs

Please see below for streaming interview information for entrance into the following 2026 programs:
 

 

Chamber Ensembles

Streaming Interviews for the 2026 Chamber Ensembles program are being held on the afternoon of Friday 28 November, 2025.

During the interview, you will be required to: 

  • Perform a piece of your own choice that best demonstrates your ability
  • Do some sight reading
  • You might be asked to play a scale

Your chosen piece can be solo or accompanied. If you are not able to arrange an accompanist, it is also fine to perform your accompanied piece without one an accompanist.  

 

Chamber Choir (Vocal Fry)

Streaming Interviews for the 2026 Chamber Choir (Vocal Fry) are being held on the afternoon of Friday 28 November, 2025.

Interviews are 15-minutes in length and applicants will be required to: 

  • Sing 'Waltzing Matilda' (download the score below)
  • Sing a simple selection of vocal exercises
  • Respond to listening tests and a short selection of theory questions

 

Girls Jazz+

Streaming Interviews for the 2026 Girls Jazz+ program (ages 12+) are being held on the afternoon of Thursday 27 November, 2025. 

During the interview, you will be required to: 

  • Prepare a jazz standard of your choice
  • Play a scale of your choice

 

Jazz Combos

Streaming Interviews for the 2026 Jazz Combos Program (youth) are being held on the afternoon of Wednesday 26 November, 2025. 

During the interview, you will be required to:

  • Perform the set piece, 'Satin Doll' (download link is at the bottom of this page).
  • You might be asked to play a scale. 

Instructions for the set piece: 

  • All candidates should play the melody and then improvise a solo over the form of the song.
  • Harmony instruments should also play through the chords; bass players should play an appropriate bass line; drummers should 'play the melody on the kit', play an appropriate drum feel over the form of the song and improvise a solo over the form. 

 

Jazz Jambos

Streaming Interviews for the 2026 Jazz Jambos Program (adults) are being held on the afternoon of Tuesday 25 November, 2025. 

During the interview, you will be required to:

  • Prepare a jazz standard of your choice
  • You might be asked to play a scale. 

 

Creative Aural and Theory Skills (CATS)

All applicants applying to join the Creative Aural and Theory Skills program (CATS) are required to fill out a streaming questionnaire, including those interested in Jazz CATS, Composition CATS, as well as the general practice CATS classes.This streaming questionnaire allows the program coordinators to get a better understanding of your current skill level and how to structure the class accordingly. To be considered for the 2026 program, please submit your streaming questionnaire by 5 January, 2026.
