How to apply to the Graduate Certificate of Studies

Applications can be made for entry in either first or second semester. Applications usually open in August for semester 1 entry and in April for semester 2 entry.

Domestic students

Most Domestic Graduate Coursework applications are made via the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) website. When completing the UAC application form please use the School of Music codes.

International students

International students apply direct to ANU. Visit the ANU Student website for closing dates and application procedure. General information can be found on the International Office page.

Specialisation requirements

In addition to the information requested via a UAC or by direct application, applicants must finalise their application as per the guidelines listed below related to their intended area of specialisation.

Performance

Students wishing to specialise in Performance who have not completed MUSI3302 Music Performance 6 with a mark of at least 65 prior to commencing the Graduate Certificate of Music will need to audition.

Postgraduate (coursework) Performance auditions

  • Applicants should prepare a program of three contrasting pieces (accompanied or unaccompanied).
  • International students and domestic students unable to attend a live audition should submit a digital audition.

Composition, Arranging, and Sound Design

Students who have not completed MUSI3315 Composition, Arranging, and Sound Design 6 with a mark of at least 65 prior to commencing the Graduate Certificate of Music must submit a portfolio.

Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Music Curatorship

Applicants wishing to specialise in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, and Music Curatoriship are encouraged to submit a portfolio.
