Chenxiao Chen graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Classical Piano Performance at the Australian National University. Chen’s music journey started in New Zealand, where he studied with Dr. Humberto Almeida, Bryan Sayer and Able Zhu. Prior to commencing at the ANU, he won the First Prize in the 2016 Lang Lang New Zealand Youth Piano Competition and the 2017 Ronisch Auckland Secondary Schools Piano Competition. His piano lecturers at the ANU School of Music have included Dr. Scott Davie, Dr. Edward Neeman and Dr. Mike Lee. As a university student, Chen won the First Prize and the People’s Choice Prize in the 2019 Whitworth Roach Classical Music Performance Competition and was granted the Dennis Griffin National Piano Undergraduate Scholarship, the Imad Nassir Prize for Encouragement in Piano Performance and the Winifred Burston Memorial Prize. Outside of classical music studies, he played keys as a member of the winning band in the 2019 ANU Interhall Big Night Out. As a collaborative pianist, Chen has played in a number of classical and pop ensembles and has accompanied a range of instruments from classical voice to tuba. Chen is currently a high school classroom teacher and piano tutor in the Australian Capital Territory.
