Composition major or minor

At the heart of the University's composition department is its renowned faculty, comprising composers whose music is heard around the world in concert halls and opera houses, in theatres, in film and video games, and on recordings. The department prides itself on the diversity of styles represented by its students, faculty, and alumni.

As a student majoring in composition at the School of Music, you will develop critical listening and research skills while working on a unique portfolio of your own compositions. Our program is designed to help students engage with core tools and techniques in composing for ensembles, film and video games, and new and emerging technologies, while providing the space and support to develop your own unique compositional voice.
