James has over twenty years experience as a professional musician and music educator. A highly sought after performer in a diverse range of styles, James is a “first call” bass player for many artists from trad jazz to modern pop and rock. He has performed with artists such as renowned jazz drummer Olavi Louhivouri (Finland), jazz ukelele virtuoso Benny Chong (USA), Ian and Nigel Date, “Bushwackers” front man Dobe Newton and many others.
James plays and teaches both double bass and bass guitar, covering all common techniques and styles, including 4,5 and 6 string fretted and fretless bass guitar and double bass. James is renowned for his keen interest in electronic sound manipulation on both bass guitar and double bass.
James’ teaching methodology is tailored to each student and their desired learning outcomes, with a strong focus on preparing students for a lifetime of playing music, so they have develop skills they can enjoy forever.
