Jess Green is an Australian musician and composer. Her primary instruments are electric guitar and voice. Born in Canberra and trained at the ANU (Jazz Guitar), Jess established herself on the national scene whilst living in Sydney, working in a wide variety of styles and settings. She has recorded for television and dance, composed and performed for theatre and released several albums under various stage and band names (The Green Septet, The New Dynamites, Jess Green’s Bright Sparks and Pheno). Her composition and song writing spans instrumental jazz, rock, indie pop and experimental music and as a musician she has performed alongside artists such as Laura Jean, Katie Noonan,The catholics, Alyx Dennison, Georgia Mooney, Jessica O’donoghue, Jim Conway, Bree van Reyk, Justine Clarke and many more. She has performed on many of Australia’s great stages and festivals and toured through Europe and Asia. Highlights include; performing at the Closing Ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, house band guitarist for Georgia Mooney's supergroup (2019), supporting NYC artist Joan as Policewoman (2019) and collaborating with visual artist Nell for her work ‘Ghost Songs at Rockgate’ (Sydney Contemporary 2020).
In January 2022 Jess performed with Bree van Reyk for Bighart at the Sydney Festival, creating a site-specific performance at the Heritage Fleet Shipyard. Recent commissions include a soundtrack for visual artist Patricia Piccinini’s ‘Every Heart Sings’ project, which included creating and performing the song ‘We are the Skywhales’, and an installation for Piccinini’s ‘A Miracle Constantly repeating’ (Melbourne Rising Festival 2022). In 2022, Jess was commissioned by Luminescence to create a chamber vocal piece ‘I Heard You Sing’ and The Australian Art Orchestra premiered a new work ‘Dream Universe’ commissioned for their Market Street series. Jess is studying a master’s degree in performance at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and is also sought-after music educator. She has taught at The Australian Institute of Music (SYD), The University of Western Sydney, ANU, CIT, The SIMA Young Women’s Jazz Workshops, and has toured for Musica Viva in Schools for over 10 years.
