Artistic Practice: Performance and Composition Now
The Performance and Composition hub presents the research of our leading composers and performers. The hub serves as a focus for our many projects across myriad disciplines, capturing outputs in both the traditional and non-traditional research areas.
Our age is one in which it is possible to hear music from a vast array of countries and eras, in ways not envisaged by generations past. Through modern research and technological advance, our ability to interact with different styles of music is profoundly rich. Accordingly, music performance 'now' incorporates the total range of our research, from historically-informed performance traditions to modern music in its evolution.
Similarly, composition stands at the threshold of creative transformation, with composers of today viewing music and sound with conceptual understandings beyond the limit of previous practioners. Through the interplay of traditional instrumental forces and modern technologies, research in composition leads audiences to sounds previously unimagined.
