ANU Orchestra Auditions Semester 1, 2025

Are you an orchestral musician looking to play in the ANU Orchestra in 2025?

Housed at the ANU School of Music and conducted by Rowan Harvey-Martin, the ANU Orchestra offers a unique opportunity to perform with the best music students at ANU.

 

Rehearsals

Orchestra members rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the ANU School of Music.

 

Audition dates 

  • The application portal for auditions for Semester 1 is now open and will close at COB on the Monday the 3rd of February. NOW EXTENDED to COB Thursday 6 February
  • All instrumentalists are welcome to apply. 
  • Auditions will be held during O-Week on February 13th and 14th, 2025.
  • All players must audition, including 2024 ANU Orchestra members and ANU School of Music students. Audition times will be allocated one week in advance and applicants should keep themselves available for the full audition period.

Audition eligibility and requirements

  • Who can apply

Auditions are open to all ANU students, as well as alumni (up to 5 years post-graduation), and community musicians aged 16 to 26.

  • Minimum performance standards

Strings: Grade 7 AMEB or equivalent

Wind & Brass: Grade 6 AMEB or equivalent

  • Audition repertoire

All applicants are required to prepare three orchestral excerpts provided for their instrument. String leadership applicants must prepare a fourth excerpt. No solo work or piano accompaniment is required.

  • String leadership positions

Applicants interested in auditioning for violin, viola or cello leadership roles must nominate themselves via the signup form, prepare additional excerpts as indicated in the attached excerpt files, and participate in a non-blind audition.

Applicants must prepare the provided excerpts attached below for their respective instrument.
