The School of Music is centrally located on the western side of Canberra City within the campus of The Australian National University. Concerts normally take place in either Llewellyn Hall, Larry Sitsky Recital Room or the Band Room.

 

Llewellyn Hall

Llewellyn is one of the finest acoustic venues in Australia. It is home to the Canberra Symphony, Canberra Choral Society and Canberra Community Orchestra. Llewellyn Hall regularly plays host to tours including Musica Viva and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and has played host to the Australian Youth Orchestra Camp, and to an extensive list of national and international artists and acts.

Finding your seat

Doors 1 and 2 are on level 4. Climb one flight of stairs or press level 4 in the lift.
Doors 3, 4 and 5 are on level 5. These are for seats in the Gallery. Climb two flights of stairs or press level 5 in the lift.
Door 6 is on the ground floor (level 2). As you enter through the front glass doors, turn left up the corridor and Door 6 will be on your right. Use this door for rows near to the stage.

Ticketing

Tickets for all events in Llewellyn Hall are sold through Ticketek. To book tickets please call 132 849 or visit the Ticketek website. Please be aware that some events may have different reserve seating prices. 

You may purchase tickets for Llewellyn Halll concerts or collect pre-purchased tickets, on the evening of the performance from the Box Office. The Box Office is only open 1 hour prior to the concert and is closed all other times. It is located on the ground level of the School of Music building.

 

Larry Sitsky Recital Room

Larry Sitsky Recital Room is a mdeium-sized venue but has the versatility that makes it ideal for different functions, expecially recitals, conferences, masterclasses, seminars, rehearsals and receptions. The Larry Sitsky Recital Room is located inside the School of Music building behind the stage of Llewellyn Hall.

 

Big Band Room

The Big Band Room is located in the Peter Karmel building, across the courtyard and adjacent to the main School of Music building. Enter through the glass doors and the Band Room is straight ahead.

 

Other information

Parking

Please always read the signs and obey the rules for parking at ANU. 

There are four parking areas in close proximity to Llewellyn Hall: in front of the School; adjacent to the School next to the Peter Karmel Building; in the Baldessin multi-storey car park across the road; and behind the School of Art and Design. The City West multi-storey car park off Marcus Clarke Street, and paid parking next to the Street Theatre, are within a few minutes walk. Staff permit parking areas are available to park free of charge outside the times of 8am to 5pm. 

Disabled parking and disabled access

There are a total of 12 disabled parking spaces in the areas mentioned above.

Llewellyn Hall provides disabled access on both the ground level and level 4. If you have parked out the front of the School or in the car parks opposite and adjacent, enter through the automatic glass doors. If you have parked behind the School of Art and Design, please use the footbridge and enter through the glass doors that lead into the foyer outside Doors 1 and 2 of Llewellyn Hall. The lift can be found at the bottom of the stairs on each level. 

Llewellyn Hall has four wheelchair spaces: two at the front; either side of row B; and two at the read on either side of row W. The disabled toilet is located on level 4, which can be accessed via the lift. 

Prams and walking frames

Due to fire regulations, prams may not be taken into Llewellyn Hall. Prams can be left with the door staff. For the same reason, walking frames must also be removed from the aisle once you have taken your seat. An usher will take and store the frame for you, and return it to you, both at interval and at the conclusion of the performance. 

Amenities

Toilets are situated on the ground floor outside Door 6, on level 4 near Door 1, and on level 5 near Door 3. There is a disabled toilet on level 4, which can be accessed from the lift. In the Peter Karmel building, toilet facilities can be found on the ground level near the entrance facing Childers Street.

Photography

Photography or filming is prohibited in all venues unless specified by the promoter.

Food and beverages

At larger events, a licensed bar plus tea and coffee facilities may be available. Please note that food and drink is not permitted inside Llewellyn Hall.
