School of Music welcomes Tonmeister Thomas Wieber as Visiting Fellow

Thursday 18 August 2022

The ANU School of Music is pleased to welcome German Tonmeister Thomas Wieber, who will be a resident at the ANU School of Music as a result of Dr Sally Walker’s RSHA grant from September 26 to October 3.

As a prominent sound recordist, Thomas Wieber has performed and recorded numerous professional productions across solo, chamber, opera and symphony realms with numerous radio broadcasts and CD productions. Born in former East Germany, Thomas began his career as an orchestral flautist. Following completing his Bachelor of Music in Performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, Thomas held the position of Principal Piccolo with the Halle Opera House Orchestra for sixteen years. Developing a passion for audio engineering, Thomas then completed his formal audio engineering and music technology training at the “Schule für Rundfunktechnik” in Nuremburg and further “Tonmeister” study at Universität der Künste (UdK), Berlin, with Prof. Matthes (EMI) and E. Sengpiel (Teldec), as well as participation in multimedia courses in camera technology, post-production, journalism and entertainment law at the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) broadcasting company. In 1997, he founded his recording company “Beorecords Musikproduktion”, named after the Beo Bird, native to Southeast Asia, and chosen because of its astonishing ability to imitate sounds and language. Beorecords specialises in vocal, orchestral and chamber music recordings with repertoire ranging from the Renaissance through to experimental new music performed by artists of the highest calibre, many recordings winning major prizes.

Staff, students and members of the community are invited to attend the workshops and lectures he will be giving as follows:
