The ANU School of Music is proud to highlight the exceptional achievements of cellist James Monro, a third-year student who continues to captivate audiences with his performances. Monro is set to advance his studies at the prestigious Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, a significant milestone reflecting his remarkable talent and commitment.

Monro's journey exemplifies the opportunities provided to students by the ANU's exchange programs. These programs enable students to study abroad, enhancing their education and exposing them to new cultural experiences. Monro is set to study with internationally acclaimed cellist Orfeo Mandozzi whilst in Zurich.

Recently, Monro delivered an extraordinary performance with renowned pianist and ANU staff member Edward Neeman at the Wesley Music Centre. The concert included works by Piazzolla and Schumann, showcasing both musicians' sensitive and expressive playing. “I feel like the cello is an extension of the body, very natural, and I enjoy its versatility, you can get some really rich flow,” Monro explained to Helen Musa for the Canberra CityNews article Zurich calls our bright, young cellist.
