New Perspectives in Global Music
The Global Music Research Hub responds to significant changes to music-making in the last generation. Australia is one of the world's most successful multicultural societies, offering both a place and metholodologies for profound intercultural music practices. Additionally, the musical émigré communities in Australia offer ethnomusicologists the chance to look at the evolution of music up close. This hub responds to the pressing need for decolonisation in the curicula and activities at the ANU School of Music.
The hub is the focus for a range of disciplinary viewpoints, such as its intersection with early music practice. Researchers who work in this area compose new music, work in mixed cultural ensembles, investigate the acoustic ecology of diverse parts of the world, and conduct traditional research into the future of music. Researchers associated with this hub comprise both academic staff and HDR students at the ANU School of Music, and those working more broadly in the field. Closely allied with this hub is the Global Musical Instruments Collection.
